STI College Balayan’s Stingrays grasped triumph in the recently concluded ““Sanguniang Kabataan (SK), Pistalakasan 2010, Inter-College, SK Federation”, the said event’s aim was to promote sportsmanship and camaraderie between the different Colleges in Balayan, initiated by the Sanguniang Kabataan, held at the Balayan Covered Court, Balayan, Batangas last October 27, 2010.
The said event includes sports, mainly, Volleyball for girls and Basketball for boys, participated by the brave Colleges situated at Balayan. Colleges that are not afraid of losing, namely Batangas State University (BSU), Immaculate Conception College (ICC), Pag-asa Youth Association (PYA) and the Samahang Kabataan Federation joined the league. Each team battled to deserve the championship trophy but only one team made it to the final saga, STI College Balayan’s STIngrays.
The girls’ volleyball team headed by their coach Mr. Victoriano Perez (IT Instructor), appeared to be dominant and undefeated through out the league, meeting PYA to the finals and prevailed, as their team captain Cheenne De Leon (BSIT student) led the team to victory. With a 26- 24 score over PYA.
While the girls befallen champion, history repeats itself as the boys’ basketball team turned out to be the leading and undefeated team, meeting BSU to the finals with a twice to beat advantage. The championship game favored the Stingrays with 32 point deficits. With a great arsenal of players, led by their team captain Laurence Cristopher Agdeppa (BSCOE student), spearheaded by their lead coach Mr. Oliver B. Noriega (Academic Head of STI College Balayan) and assistant coach, Mr. Ronan Caringal (Stingray adviser), the stingrays was declared victor.
Isaac Newton’s the third Law of Motion states that “for every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction”. Meaning, we will only get back if we put out. The result of the team’s success was because of the efforts and discipline they exerted before. The hardships made them strong and clever. With great effort and discipline, the team knocked all their opponents, enough to bring home the bacon and come out victorious.
