STI College Balayan was elated by Terranya M. Tiamson, one of its alumni (Bachelor of Science in Computer Science) and currently one of its IT instructors topped the National Computer Center’s (NCC) of the Philippines Programming Proficiency test with an average of 84.75% and was accredited Programming NC-IV Assessor by the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) Batangas last October 2009.
The NCC conducted the programming proficiency test at the Lyceum of Batangas to more than 40 ICT professionals and trainers from different industries and colleges from CALABARSON area. The six-hour test includes competence in creating applications using their selected programming language and in defining system analysis and design functions. From the Batangas examinees, only four passed to which she topped with an average of 84.75 percent while the rest got an average below 80 percent. She was given a Certificate of Proficiency in Programming by the NCC which will also be the basis for granting appropriate ICT (EDP) Specialist eligibility by the Civil Service Commission.
Another pride for STI College Balayan are Norman R. Caraig and Victoriano Perez III, both TESDA Accredited Assessor for Animation NCIII who were chosen to be the scholars for batch 1 of “Train the Trainers Program – Pedagogical Training in Instructional Design and Delivery for TVET” at the ITE Headquarters in Singapore by the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) with the support from TEMASEK Foundation, Inc. and Institute of Technical Education Services (ITEES).
Thirty trainers all over the Philippines with National Certificate III (NCIII) for competency in Machining, Instrumentation and Animation where chosen to be the scholars for batch 1 of the said training. Scholars were chosen through written essay and interview conducted by the TESDA HQ personnel and a representative from the Industry Sector. From all the colleges and TESDA training centers nationwide, it was only from STI College Balayan that two trainers with NCIII in Animation qualified for the scholarship. The training was composed of two stages, the first stage was held at TESDA Women’s Center, Taguig last April 12 to 30 and the second stage was held in Singapore last May 12 to June 2. The training covers the development of electronic and printed training materials and methodologies in teaching with practicum for each field of competencies.
Education for real life equates to education at par with the industry standards. To be able to provide the education that will bring more competent STI graduates, STI College Balayan’s instructors and trainers who would be training its students should also be competent and at par with the industry standards. This is the reason why STI College Balayan supports their faculty members in taking certification and qualification exams in line with their field of expertise. To name other STI College Balayan faculty members with certifications: Glenda G. Rivera, Bevily V. Devis and Eddie Jose Medrano (TESDA Lead Trainer) – Housekeeping, Food and Beverage Services and Commercial Cooking NCII; Ma. Carolina R. Martinez - Front Office NCII; Victoriano B. Perez III, Engr. Oliver B. Noriega, Ronaldo Casiserano (TESDA Accredited Assessor) and Engr. Jay B. Ilagan (TESDA Accredited Assessor) – Computer Hardware Servicing NCII.
