Bugtong vies for silver at PNSC


Region IV-A Web Design champion Jun G. Bugtong, 4th year BSIT student competed in the same category during the Philippine National Skills Competition (PNSC) last April 7-11, 2014 and went home with a Silver Medal and pride for STI College Balayan.

Right after winning the regional last November, Jun and his coach, Mr. Norman Caraig started the intensive training in Web Design to prepare for the national competition. Since he was a graduating student, he learned to juggle his time attending his on the job training and preparing for the competition which was held in MFI Foundation in Pasig.  “Competing in the national was superb but it gave me chills knowing that I’m competing against the contenders from all over the country. It also makes me more eager to win and I know I have given my very best. Although I only made it to silver, I have no regrets”, Jun said.  

Jun competed against the representatives from Regions I, III, V, VI, VII, X, XII and NCR. Percian Joseph C. Borja of Region III bagged the honor of representing the Philippines in the 10th Asean Skills Competition Web Design category to be held in Hanoi, Vietman this October. Nonetheless, STI College Balayan was very proud of him and vested him the “Programmer of the Year” award.

The PNSC was organized by the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) and the highest level of skills competition to showcase the student’s skills in their respective trade area like Beauty Therapy, Cooking, Fashion Technology, Hairdressing, Restaurant Services, Graphic Design Technology, IT Network Systems Administration, IT Software Solutions for Business, Mechanical Engineering Design-CAD, Mechatronics, Electrical Installation, Refrigeration and Air-Conditioning, Welding, Electronics and Automobile Technology which was held simultaneously in other host regions.

BSBM, 100% NCIII Competent


STI Balayan’s Bachelor of Science in Business Management students received a 100% competency rating during the Bookkeeping National Certificate (NC) III assessment last March 5-14, 2014.

The faculty and administration took initiative to help the students get certified in a specific trade area in line with their program to further their career under the Philippine TVET Qualification and Certification System of the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) through competency assessment. The 46 third year students and 40 fourth year students confidently went through the Bookkeeping competency assessment after reviewing for two days with their accounting instructor Mr. Ronald Casiserano. The assessment was conducted by Ms. Rheysan Sandro and Ms. Marissa Arellano, TESDA Bookkeeping NCIII Assessors. They were the first batch of BSBM students who took the assessment.

Relacion, Stand Up and Deliver champion 2014

Mark Jayson M. Relacion, 2nd year BSBM student brought honor to STI College Balayan as the national champion in Tagisan ng Talino Stand Up and Deliver impromptu speech competition last March 6 at STI Ortigas, Cainta.

Though hopeful about winning, he never expected to be the national champion and he was completely astounded when he was called. Relacion said that he felt defeated right after the delivery of his speech but still he never lost hope. “Like the question given, if you truly want something the universe will help you in achieving it. I believe the universe helped me because I started to believe more in my abilities and that is why I got the championship with the help of my coach Miss Terranya M. Tiamson, my family and the STI College family. Thank you”, Relacion summed up.

Stand-up and Deliver is an impromptu speech competition where each entrant is given a topic, then the entrant is given one and a half minute to prepare a speech to be delivered in three minutes. Relacion won over the cluster champions from STI Marikina, STI Recto, STI Puerto Princesa, STI San Pablo, STI Balagtas, STI Baguio, STI Bacolod, STI Tagum and STI Cagayan de Oro.
