Ready, Set, Lead! SLC 2015

by: Cristian C. Alday

Superseding the Student of the Year (SOY) Award, the STI conducted the first-ever Student Leadership Congress held STI Academic Center – ORCA, last May 20-22, 2015 with the aim, “Nurturing students to become competent and responsible members of society and inspiring to become change-agents in their respective school community”. The event was participated by selected student leaders coming from all STI campuses nationwide and was headed by the different professional instructors, executives, and campus administrators. Cristian C. Alday, a 4th year BSIT student represented STI Balayan in the congress.

The said event was a three-day congress which includes teambuilding activities, seminars and workshops. The purpose of each activity is to build up the leadership sense and ability of every delegate and learn to thrust their selves forward into a bigger role.

Getting Acquainted
The first day was highlighted with the indoctrination of Mr. Elbert de Guzman as he narrated the evolution and history of STI Network of Colleges. It was followed by an eye-opening lecture about 4C’s (Communication, Critical Thinking, Change-adept, and Character) by the assigned facilitators and the day ended with a film showing.

Exploring and Teambuilding
In day two, the delegates visited the Maningning River in Taytay, Rizal toured by the organization “Angat Kabataan”. The group discussed the unsightly condition of the river and how it was transformed to a paradise. After lunch at Café Dozo Japanese Restaurant in Antipolo City, everybody went back to the venue where Ms. Marife Ibarra discussed “Finding the Leader in You”. The topic encompassed the ways on how to enact leadership within oneself. Teambuilding activities followed and the Commitment Night was held after dinner.

The Beginning of the NEWs
During the final day, one of the executives shared inspirational stories. Then, the leaders built their class symbol, sung the class song, and recited the STIer’s Creed all at the same time. Shortly after was the much awaited part of the congress, the awarding of certificate to the delegates and the distribution leadership jackets.

Indeed, the three-day congress burns and ignites the desire of the STI 21st century young leaders. All the activities enhanced leadership skills and abilities and inspired student leaders beyond expectations.
