STI Balayan was jubilant when awarded the first runner up for Worth the Whisk and second runner up for Chef Xpress in Tagisan ng Talino (TNT) National competition last March 7, 2013 at STI Naga City.

Orlando “Ola” Emmanuel Venzon (3rd yr BSHRM) bagged the first runner-up in “Worth the whisk” with his cake designed as “Parada Ng Lechon”. The competition was a test of creativity and artistic ability in cake decoration in conformity to the given theme “A Feast of Cake”. The theme aimed to showcase the local fiesta of the different towns in the Philippines which were celebrated all throughout the year. Since Balayan is famous for its “Parada ng Lechon”, STI Balayan chose and collaborated with its design. During the competition, the entrants displayed their talents and skills in decorating two pieces of round dummy cakes in two sizes using only the specified decorating ingredients and utilizing at least three cake decorating techniques which was done in three hours.

Simultaneously, the team of Kristoffer Gil Magahis (3rd yr BSHRM), Aram Aron Mendoza (3rd yr BSHRM) and Joseph John Martinez (2nd yr HRS) placed second in “Chef Xpress”.   The cooking competition was a battle of culinary skills and strategies of competing teams who prepared, cooked, and plated three A la Carte dishes: appetizer, entrée or main course, and dessert for two persons using the specified main ingredient, the banana fruit. It was done within two and a half hours including area clean up.

The success of the students was fueled by the inspiration and support of selected students, administrative staff, Mr. Eddie Jose Medrano, Mrs. Bevily Devis, Ms. Razel Pablo, Academic Head Engr. Oliver Noriega and School President Mrs. Ellen Christy A. Dimaano.

Tagisan Ng Talino (TNT) is an annual academic competition designed to further student development and held at three levels: the Local, Regional and National levels. The Local Level competitions are conducted at the school while Regional Level competitions are held at an identified school from among the “cluster” of STI schools. Champions at the Local Level vie for the Regional Level and consequently, champions of the Regional Level automatically vie for the National competition.
