Nightmare Before Christmas

BalayeƱos got the chills as STI College Balayan awed them during the second STI Night dubbed “Nightmare Before Christmas” last December 4, 2012, held at the Balayan covered court in honor of the Feast of the Immaculate Conception.

The event started with an amusingly terrifying opening number of the STI Dance People with their interpretation of Michael Jackson’s popular song, “Thriller” followed by a hair-raising performance of the STI band, the Notepad.

To lighten up the mood, games were played including STI College Balayan’s own version of “Deal or No Deal” together with their own set of handsome 15k, hosted by Mr. Renato Dela Cruz, an STI faculty member. This also represents STI College Balayan’s 15th Anniversary as an educational institution. Winners got to take home cellular phones cash, and different item showcases.

Another game was the S-T-I Barangayan which was played by selected fourth year high school students from different barangays around Balayan, hosted by Mr. Ronan Caringal. The event was honored by the presence of the respected barangay officials who cheered for their game representatives. A one-year scholarsip grant to any course under STI College Balayan was given to the winner and a brand new computer showcase was given for the winning barangay. A one-day Computer Literacy seminar was granted to the other game representatives as consolation prize.

STI Balayan students also exhibited their talents through songs and dances by the STI Sessionistas, STI all-girl band Wordpad, Dance People, alumni dancers, Multimedia Arts students and Core Science Academy students. The crowd’s cheers echoed as one of Balayan’s prominent bands, Mojerk, gave their stage-rocking performance as the event’s special guest.

To end the night, BSED students inspired everyone with their interpretative dance of “Make it Happen” to give a message of holding on to dreams until it comes to reality.

Organized by the STI College Balayan production team, the event title was adapted from Tim Burton’s Nightmare Before Christmas, a 1993 American stop motion musical fantasy horror film.

STI's Eco Heroes

STI students preparing to plant
by: Aaron Sapio, 2ndyr BSED

It is a universal struggle to nurture and protect our environment to make it more conducive for living and to leave behind for future generations and STI College Balayan never fail to join the cause for saving and restoring the environment.

Last October 6, 2012, the 402 STI NSTP students joined the yearly coastal clean-up to help make the environment conducive for living. They eagerly played the part as eco- heroes with broomsticks, dustpan and sacks as tools to help clean the garbage problem in Barangays Sanpiro, Navotas, and Palikpikan in Balayan, Batangas.

The students considered the clean-up a very simple activity but they felt accomplished for having participated knowing that it was only a prelude to another environmental activity, the tree planting held on October 15 at Brgy. Dilao also in Balayan. Together with the 730th Combat Group of the Philippine Air Force under 2Lt Cesar R Regis Jr. PAF Squadron Commander who helped to transport the students and teachers safely to the site, each student vigorously planted the narra seedlings in the denuded place with the help of the barangay officials who made the excavations. They unanimously said that the tree planting was tiring but inside they were happy to help restore the place for the future generation and hoped that others will give their extra effort to also help in taking care and fostering it.

The activities were organized by the Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office in cooperation with the STI College Balayan NSTP Instructors Mr. Ronan Ira Caringal, Mr. Mhar Julongbayan, Mr.Jonathan Pantoja, Mr. Bernard Ambagan and Miss Alejandra Cosme, NSTP Coordinator.
