Bachelor of Science in Hotel and Restaurant Managment (BSHRM) students Mariz N. Merilles, Anvi Rose G. Tolentino and Carlo P. Delas
Alas were ecstatic when they were announced as the National Champion for Chef
Express last March 3, 2016 in STI College Bohol.
Though they hoped to bring home the gold, they didn’t expect
much knowing how stiff the competition was. The competing teams were all
champions from different STI clusters around the Philippines. The team coached
by Mr. Kristoffer Gil M. Magahis went
through rigid training in preparation for the event with the unfailing support
and guidance of the School President, Mrs. Ellen Christy A. Dimaano, faculty and staff.
Chef Express is a team competition in Tagisan ng Talino (TNT) where students are given
the chance to showcase their culinary prowess within a restricted time. They
were tasked to prepare and cook three à la carte dishes that represent a
specific kind of cuisine which were the appetizer, entrée or main course, and
dessert for two persons. They prepared two set of plates for each dish, one of
which was displayed while the other was served to the panel of judges for sampling
base on the following criteria: mis en place, sanitation and hygiene, appropriateness
of the dishes, plating methods and palatability.
Tagisan ng Talino is a group of competitions held yearly to
showcase students’ knowledge and skills on the following: computer programming
(Into-Programming), android application development (APP and Running), table
setting (All in Place) , culinary techniques (Chef Express), cake decoration (Worth
the Whisk), public speaking (Stand Up and Deliver) , essay writing (Essay Does It!) and quiz bee (Think Quest).
